Haven't I finished? Don't I get a badge too?? podcasts et al

I often use YouTube when I hear about a band or want to see their new video- it has replaced video-ing Raaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaage! (and falling asleep whilst eating a service station cheese burger). This is a video from The Shins - i saw them last week at the Metro: great band, pity there are so many tall people in Australia. I am sick of dodging and weaving to see bands through shoulders. Anyway this video is called Australia and it has nothing to do with Australia but it was written in Australia. And the last line goes
Give me your hand, lets jump out the window

I subscribed to a podcast for indiemusic but I do not know if they are updating them anymore. Anyway we shall see through Bloglines. I prefered Podcast alley ; the way it was set out and the drop down descriptions of the feeds. I subscribed to a RRR podcast. Its good I know where to find these things.

I think I would use podcasts for relaxation rather than as a learning tool. I still initially seek written information on a topic rather than a podcast.

I had a look at Gutenbergs ebook collection. I downloaded Beowulf by Anonymyous but it would not play. I prefer a traditional book- for portability, page colour, and I don't want to scroll with my finger all the time, maybe its just 'what I know'.

The learning 2.0 program? I think it is useful to know what technologies are out 'there' and a lot of them seem to be toys. The online word processing I found useful and I think I could get into podcasts for radio shows that I miss. However I think I spend enough time with technology as it is. Just because information is easily accessiable does not mean I will want /need it.

It does surpise me how many people have blogs or want to share with the world their photos. Good for them but I do not find that so interesting. Wikipeadia is useful, I just know to tread carefully. I think these technologies are ok but they are not addressing world hunger or cancer. I do not jump out of bed because Flickr exists. And I think they should be treated as such, priority wise. It is helpful to have a knowledge of what people are using- especially in our field- but it is not difficult to learn - it just requires time.

posting from ZoHo which reminds me I gootta go to the zoo again

I could see myself using the ZoHo writer;as I am now

Spell check: fair; wanted to change 'Im' but did not suggest 'I'm'
Saving capabilites: still checking
Formatting: fine
Special characters: good pop up box; easy to use
Emailed: no; didn't turn up at my hotmail account
Did it turn up on my blog?
it did if you are reading this

Online Tools

I am looking at ZoHo applications; I started to look at the Planner but I thought I would not bother to learn how to use something if I was not going to use it- as with the online slide show- its useful if you need it. A bit like the scouts building their platforms in the park on weekends. If you are marooned on an island and need to build a platform ; great but I don't plan being marooned an island. I would rather spend more time on getting the information which will sit in the application correct than worry about how to present it. A bit like cooking: I do not spend three hours choosing the dish to serve my pork wrapped in bacon stuffed with peaches and rosemary. I spend the 3 hours cooking the pork. (there's never enough crackling, God should look into that)

Ok tried to email ZoHo doc again- it did say 'sent successfully' but thats what it said last time.
I'm back; and it worked so thats handy when changing pc's and its good for SLV users who are always asking after Word.

Wiki

What types of applications within libraries might work well with a wiki? The "share what you know" comments by users on the SLV site could be organised / attached to each image- creating a wiki for each image or would that be a blog? I think they are now just put in a giant digital cupboard which will fall on the IT person with the courage to opens it.

The SJCPL wiki http://www.libraryforlife.org/subjectguides/index.php/Main_Page provides another way to get into the catalogue or use the library thus increasing access points; which is a good thing.

Booklovers wiki http://booklovers.pbwiki.com/Princeton%20Public%20Library was fine - another book review site- I think it could be used as a 'what to read next' thing for library patrons. Its easy to use and there are not ads flying all over the place. I preferred it to some other book reviews sites because I wasn't overwhelmed with links. Less decisions to make.

Library Success http://www.libsuccess.org/index.php?title=Wikis#Examples_and_Information
seems well organised and covers a wide range of topics although there is a few topics without entries.

Are these things another job besides their REAL job? Do they go home and maintain a library wiki after a day at the library? Or is it a team effort? I will be interested to see if the site is maintained in 2 years- maybe enthusiastic graduates will contribute.

Tagging Folks

Looked at delicious and read an article "most people are depressed and for very good reason"
-written by a web.2 fellow.
It mainly consists of links to info I dont need but i know it is there if i want to find it- like most of the web. I checked out the 'podcast directory' but I see we do not do that until week 9 in web2.0 so I do not feel i am ready to progress yet.
I find it funny how many terms are invented to describe new technologies- as if the applications are invented only so the new term can be used. We've had digital immgrants/ natives, citizen media, World Live Web, mash ups...

Heres a site which invents phrases for your next web2 paper http://emptybottle.org/bullshit/

Rollyoyo

I did a photo sharing search and found the first page of results were all from my new nemisis: flickr.
Rollyo could be good for AskNow: searching website you know and have chosen
I created a 'what to read' rollyo from newspaper and library sites
and an entertainment search engine, 'dumbfounded'
